6 Famous People Who’ve Suffered from Varicose Veins

Source: VaricoseVeins.org

If you have varicose veins, you’re not alone. Statistics show that more than 50% of women and 40% of men suffer from some form of venous disease. Even some of your favorite celebrities have been spotted with bulging veins! Read on to learn which celebrities have battled varicose veins and understand the likely causes of their venous disorder.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears is amazing. The mother of two manages to take care of her family while retaining her status as a global superstar. Unfortunately, pregnancy is a leading cause of varicose veins, so when Spears sought treatment in 2012 for her venous disorder, her two pregnancies may have likely been the cause.

Jessica Alba

Actress Jessica Alba raised suspicions that she may suffer from varicose veins when she admitted earlier this year to US Weekly that she wears compression socks when she travels. Compression socks are commonly used to prevent varicose veins, and since venous disorder is genetic, it’s possible that Alba’s decision to wear compression socks is a result of a parent suffering from varicose veins and an attempt to prevent developing them herself.

Serena Williams

It’s hard to imagine finding any imperfection on the fabulously fit tennis superstar Serena Williams, but in 2011, Williams suffered from a blood clot that traveled to her lungs. Since varicose veins can be precursors to blood clots, it’s possible that Williams suffered from varicose veins as well. Since being on your feet for long periods of time is a common cause of vein problems, it makes sense that athletes are common sufferers of varicose veins given the amount of time they spend practicing and working out.

Sydney Leroux

Another sports star who’s suffered from varicose veins is soccer player Sydney Leroux. Leroux admitted to having varicose veins while pregnant with her first child and attributed the condition to her pregnancy. However, it’s also possible that like Serena Williams, Leroux’s condition was caused by the amount of time she spends on her feet while perfecting her soccer abilities.

Kristin Davis

Actress Kristin Davis, best known as Charlotte on the popular HBO series Sex and the City, is rumored to have sought treatment for varicose veins in 2008 after tabloids pointed out visible veins on her legs. A common cause of varicose veins is wearing high heels, so the many years she spent filming on set in fabulous designer heels may have contributed to her struggle with venous disorder.

Emma Thompson

Movie star Emma Thompson admitted to having varicose veins and having them treated, stating that she was tired of having to wear long dresses and skirts to hide her venous disorder. After having her veins treated in 2006, Thompson was spotted on the red carpet smiling and showing off her flawless legs.
